Celebrating Heritage in Cape Town

Cape Town, put away your raincoats, dust off those braai stands and bring out your heritage…it’s almost September!

A Month of Heritage

And you know what that means…a month full of spring activities and proudly South African events. Could the two be timed any better? Warmer weather, longer days and us just loving being us are fantastic reasons for South Africa to revel. That’s why we’ve rounded up a few Heritage Month events to seamlessly take you from hibernation to celebration. To make it even easier, our taxis are on standby to help get you there…

On 24 September, the world will also celebrate Heritage Day with us…through Robben Island! The globe rejoiced with South Africa when Apartheid came to an end (the island was major symbol of the era) and when former president Nelson Mandela was released. Hence Robben Island holds historical significance here at home and abroad. Experience history in the making at this world heritage site.

Heritage Day aka Braai Day (24 September)

Now that your braai stand is all polished up and ready to go, you’ll need somewhere to show off your grilling skills. Luckily, with a variety of mountains, forest, gardens and cove there’s plenty a braai spot in Cape Town for you to blow off steam and light up a fire. Have a braai at the foot of the berg at Table Mountain National Park

Heritage Week (21 – 27 September)

In true free-spirited fashion, Western Cape SANParks and Iziko Museums also join in on the heritage celebrations with a week of freebies. From 21 – 27 September, visitors can enter select nature reserves and attend a variety of cultural and educational events.

How’s that for a semi-POA?! Now for some vuur, choppies and chommies and there’s your braai planning done! All that’s left is…booking a Rikkis to get you guys there…
