From 15–16 December, there’s going to be a new event blipping on Cape Town’s music calendar radar – the Sonar International Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art.
Date: 15 – 16 December 2014
Venue: Good Hope Centre
In its 21st year, Sonar is a Barcelonan music festival held for three days of June annually. Constantly on the pulse of the electronic music scene, the event plays host to established dance artists as well as emerging talent, offering a platform for experimentation and collaboration. Some of these have included Massive Attack, Rudimental, and South Africa’s very own Sibot and Spoek Mathambo.
Sonar has hosted more than 50 festivals globally since 2002 with this year marking the first time the music event touches down on Cape Town’s shores. Electro-heads can look forward to live performances from the international likes of the Pet Shop Boys as well as The Bloody Beetroots, John Hopkins, Ten Walls and UZ. Spoek and Sibot will also be making another appearance.
Cape Town’s hosting of the event solidifies the city’s place in the history of Electronic Music Culture (EMC) and adds to our current position as the 2014 World Design Capital. And electro-lovers can thank award-winning entertainment agency Seed Experiences for that. They will be turning Socar Cape Town into an annual event, with the inaugural event scheduled for 16 December 2014 at the iconic Good Hope Centre in Cape Town.
