The L’ormarins Queens Plate, a day of rubbing shoulders with society’s elite, an endless pouring of champagne with the chance to win a ton of money – a day at the races is one of life’s great hedonistic pleasures. Not forgetting the chance to see the most beautifully bred studs racing for glory. Check out our pick of the four greatest horse race event days from the four corners of the globe.

Melbourne Cup

The Melbourne Cup in Australia is one of the biggest horse races in the world and the second richest “two-mile” handicap race. It’s a highlight on the Australian sporting and social calendar with Australians from near and far descending on Melbourne to experience the carnival atmosphere.

Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby is the most iconic horse race in the United States and the leading leg of America’s Triple Crown. The Kentucky Derby has its own traditional festival drink, the Mint Julep, and all who attend indulge in the classic cocktail. The prime viewing seats are referred to as ‘Millionaire Row’ and are the area for the ultra rich, über-glamorous and very, very well connected.

The Royal Ascot

Probably the most famous horse race in the world, the Royal Ascot five-day event in Berkshire is attended by Her Majesty the Queen, arriving in a horse-drawn Royal Procession across the field at the same time every day.

The course is only 6 miles from Windsor Castle, home of the British Royal Family. Over the five days, Britain’s elite and others aspiring for a bit of pomp converge on Ascot, with numbers reaching 300,000, making it the world’s best-attended race meeting.

L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate

The Cape’s iconic L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, which is taking place at the Kenilworth Race Course on the 9 January 2016, is another of the world’s premier race days. It’s also one of the top summer social events attracting the most glitz and glamorous people of the Mother City. We at Rikkis Taxis are like the ultimate stud fanatics, so we convinced the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate to brand seven of our iconic original London cabs and race them around the city on the days leading up to the event. Catch us prancing them around the city paddocks while showing off their blue and white attire on New Year’s day and The First Thursday of 2016. As the official transport partner, you can catch the winning ride to the 2016 L’ormarins Queens Plate with us.

We’ll see you beautiful people trackside! Don’t forget to look out for the branded cabs, snap a picture, post it on Instagram with the #LQP2016 and #rikkistaxis and win tickets to the event.
