Summer may be over but that’s no excuse to hibernate. This April, tickle your taste buds, party on an ostrich ranch and bring out the neon body paint…here’s your Cape Town gig guide.
Taste of Cape Town (10 – 12 April)
Venue: Green Point Cricket Club, Green Point
If you think of yourself a bit of a cuisine queen or culinary king, then take note – Taste of Cape Town is a must-do event. Put it on your foodie calendar now!
The featured chefs prepare starter-sized dishes to satisfy every smaak, from crispy duck pancakes to deconstructed peppermint crisp. And if that’s not enough to get you drooling, perhaps Dukkah-spiced springbok short rib will? What about a beef burger with bacon and tequila jam?
Fives Street Popup (11 April)
Venue: Secret Location, City Centre
Where five-a-side soccer meets music, dance and art. The Fives Street Popup is all about showcasing the best of Cape Town’s street talent. Think fast-paced football, graffiti art, breakdancing, and hip hop. With rap artists like Youngsta and E-Jay lined up, this is one street party you don’t want to miss.
As the official transport partner of Fives Street Popup, Rikkis will transport guests upon arrival to the event in their brand new tuk-tuk taxis…for free! Don’t let your Rikkis ride stop there. Book a taxi ride home for when the night’s over.
Neon Run (18 April)
Venue: Kenilworth Racecourse, Kenilworth
It’s neon time! Get bright and funky at the Neon Run. Something akin to the glow-in-the-dark version The Colour Run, this fun and fit event calls for dousing yourself in glowstick ink and takes places in the nighttime so runners can be seen prancing in all their colourful glory. Not a runner? Pack your walking shoes, skates, or wheel through your bike for the 5km event.
If exercise isn’t really your idea of fun, the Neon Afterparty will make up for your sweat and tears. This glowing night event will feature local acts like Vic Naidoo, Nic Hamman, Roger Goode, Grassy Spark, Micasa and Chris Taylor.
Freedom Fest (27 April)
Venue: West Coast Ostrich Ranch, Cape Farms
Celebrate Freedom Day with local and international bands and DJs at the first ever Freedom Festival. Set on the outskirts of Cape Town, you’re free to sing as loud as your vocal chords will allow.
Local bands like aKING, Shortstraw and the Plastics (to name a few) will share the stage with the likes of the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus for up to ten hours of uninterrupted rock.
If you prefer something different, a host of local and international DJs will keep you moving at the Electronic Dance Music stage.
It’s autumn and we’re going out! Who’s with us?
